broadcasting to both valleys at once
Broadcasting: 09/02/10 - 21/02/10
Two Valleys Radio had a fantastic time broadcasting from the Watershed in Slaithwaite from the 18th – 21st Feb 2010. Over 100 people were involved in the broadcast which included interviews, quizzes, on air debates and lots of live local music from the Bobbin. Have a look at the schedule below to see how the weekend ran and listen again to the different shows.
Thursday 18th February: 4pm – 10pm Music Thursday
4-4.45pm Enigma Connor, Aleks and Daniel delve into the history of heavy metal. They’ll be playing lots of music, speaking to a heavy metal fan and you can test your knowledge in the Metallica quiz. Think you know it all? Then why not take it a step further – what about making heavy metal your religion?
4.45 – 5.30pm Don’t Ask Me, I’m A Teenager Eugene and Mikey look at what it’s like to be a teenager in the Two Valleys.
5.30 – 6.15pm The Universe Show Ben and Paddy explore the universe (literally). Why are we fascinated with space travel? Who’s winning the space race? And there’s only room in this galaxy for one winner but who will it be – Science Fact versus Science Fiction.
6.15- 7pm Interactive Scrabble Ruby and Hayley present their A-Z quiz show. Two Valleys Radio presents an interactive quiz game of speed and general knowledge and you can play right here on the website. Comments at the ready…fingers steady…then here we go…At 7pm a live performance from guitarist Harry Lewis who will be supporting Jon Gomm at Bar 1.22 in March
7pm – 7.45pm Daniel Discusses a range of topics from Music Technology to young creatives and The Salon. As long as he’s bought his bus pass Daniel will also be giving a Scouting update and playing lots of good music (maybe even some Scouting for Girls).
7.45 – 8.30pm Fizzy Pop featuring local music and looking at what’s coming up on Two Valleys Radio over the next three days.
9.00 – 10.00pm Don’t Fret Joe introduces Slaithwaite Guitar School live in the studio. Featuring music from the likes of Oliver Whitaker, Neil and Ste, Ben Childs, The Boxster Allstars, and The Me. An hour of great live local music.
3-4pm The Big Questions Young people from Colne Valley High School run a live studio debate about politics in the two valleys. They’ll be looking at the people behind the parties, why politics is important and what a possible election means for the Two Valleys. Jason McCartney (Conservative), Debbie Abrahams (Labour) and Cllr. Nicola Turner (Lib Dems) will be coming in to answer their questions.
4-6pm How is it in Slawit? This broadcast is coming from the Watershed in Slaithwaite- but what kind of place is it and more importantly, how do you say the name? What’s there to do? Where’s there to go? We’ll be talking to local people about life in the Colne Valley featuring interviews with the Moonrakers Floating Tea Room, Green Valley Grocer, The Handmade Bakery and The Community Shop. We’ll be talking with Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra and young cellist, William Robertson, plays live in the studio. The programme has a big focus on volunteering and we’ll be hearing from Slaithwaite Community Association, the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue team, and local Guide leader Kath Haigh. But what about the future? We’ll be chatting with Moors for the Future about how to preserve the heritage of this area in words. To celebrate the release of her first album, Olivia Hutchinson is performing live in the studio and to finish off our day of Politics and Place, we’ll be hearing some poems and thoughts from Holmfirth Writers group.
12-2pm Moonraking Radio Wondering what you’re going to do without Moonraking Festival this year…? Here’s two hours of concentrated Moonraking Radio from the Watershed featuring live studio guests, stories, music, the raffle, highlights from last years festival and thoughts for the future. There will also be two special Moonraking radio dramas…one featuring young performers from Mikron Youth Theatre and the other performed by Two Valleys Radio Drama Group.
2-3pm Festival Frolics Spring has sprung (almost) in the Two Valleys and the nights are getting lighter. Festival Frolics welcomes in the spring with IMBOLC Festival and Marsden Cuckoo Festival. We also look towards what’s coming up from Huddersfield Literature Festival, Holmfirth Festival of Folk, some breaking news from Marsden Jazz Festival and what’s in store form Holmfirth Art Week.
3-6pm Politics with ELFM We hand over to East Leeds FM for their monthly word-based broadcasts. Politics – what’s it all about? Why should we bother and where is the hope? A whole range of interviews, poetry, prose, music and even a specially written radio drama. You can hear it all here.
11.30 – 1pm Live from the Bobbin The snow made things a little tricky for the opening show on Sunday but local jazz band Time Out walked down to the Watershed to chat live in the studio with Izzy, Daniel and Tom. Heidi Johnson from Slaithwaite Youth Brass Band was also live in the studio and we hope to hear more from the Youth Band at Hade Edge. Honley Male Voice Choir were disappointed not to attend but they are also looking forward to the Hade Edge Broadcast.
1-2pm We pass over to East Leeds FM for their Everybody Loves Folk Music Show
2-3pm Art to Art Following on from our Honley Broadcast, the show features a round up of local Pantos – the Wizard of Osssett (Marsden Parochial Halls) and Sinbad the Sailor (The Honley Players). We’ll also be hearing the latest from Holmfirth Festival of Film. The second half of the show features the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Whether you’ve never been to the Huddersfield theatre or you’re a regular, you’re bound to learn something new as we go back stage, talk to Director Victoria Firth and check in with the Youth Theatre.
3-4pm It’s back over to ELFM for Junior Disco Dungeon
4-5pm Bar 1.22 Presents… Ever wondered how to get into the live music scene in Huddersfield? The boys from Bar 1.22 present their own show about live local music, supporting young local artists and musicians, promoting and performing music in Huddersfield and the surrounding area and the new Huddersfield College Band Network. The show features Bar 1.22 favourites Extra Curricular as well as solo performer Issac Grinsdale.
5-6pm – ELFM High Fidelity
6-7.30pm – Staying with ELFM for Disco Dungeon
7.30-9pm The Bobbins Session Coming full circle we now head back to the Bobbin for the final show of the evening. First up are local four piece band Faixa come in to play us some tunes and explain that rather strange band name. We’ll be talking with Janet Williams about the importance of reducing the carbon footprint in Holmfirth. Finally, Huddersfield chunky ska-poppers Wobbly Bob play us out with their own unique blend of ska, punk, rock and Disney classics. There’s a nice calm end then!
We’ve broken the broadcast down into individual shows so why not listen again to them all…
Leave us your email address and we’ll remember you next time you visit.

Apologies to all accountants!!!!!
Issy - ages ago 18th February 2010, 7:58pm
It's difficult to get a job in any profession, we're just more disappointed in the creative industry because we're told we can't do something that we actually enjoy as opposed to accountancy!
Issy - ages ago 18th February 2010, 7:56pm
A very good con person?? Who might that be Daniel? =]
Christina - ages ago 18th February 2010, 7:46pm

Ben - ages ago 18th February 2010, 7:30pm
BTW Lindsey - the stream has sounded fine from here for the past hour. :-) No more website support in these comments after this honest!
Ben - ages ago 18th February 2010, 7:30pm
@Lisa - Not sure what's going on there. We've tested on IE7 so I think it must be a Flash related issue. Sounds like you've done this already but try going to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and check again that you've got the latest version. You should only need V9 or greater but try installing the latest V10 just in case and then exit Internet Explorer and try again.
Ben - ages ago 18th February 2010, 7:25pm
Hmmm... just noticed that the comments refresh too fast to get to the bottom if there are this many comments! We'll have to fix first thing tomorrow. Sorry!
