7th November 2014
This October, Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra started off their 2014/15 season with an incredibly moving concert at Huddersfield Town Hall dedicated to remembering those who fought and fell for us in the Great War. This concert is a collaboration of the orchestra, Bradford Festival Choral Society, Huddersfield Boys Choir, Bradford Catholic Boys Choir and mezzo-soprano Marts Fontanals-Simmons.
A big feat by Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra’s musical conductor, Benjamin Ellin which took a great deal of planning, research and preparation as he put together his own ‘Letters From Home’; a short cycle in five movements inspired by letters kept in the archives of Royds Hall Community School since it was a military hospital during the war. This is followed by a special rendition of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem. A perfect way to commemorate the 100 year centenary and to look back on this remembrance Sunday.
