broadcasting to both valleys at once
An early newsletter for March (click the image) – just in time to remind you all about Sunday afternoon’s Institute of Ideas broadcast, starting from 2pm.
What does ‘community’ mean to you? Are all communities for everybody? Are there hidden communities, are they in our imagination? …does ‘community’ even exist at all?
February’s Institute of Ideas welcomes back a host of programmes, and this month’s theme is ‘Community‘. Listen in on Sunday 26th Feb for music, literature and ideas direct from the valleys.
2pm – 2.30
Listen in to Rev Joanne Archer’s debut programme, with thoughts on community from the Reverend’s point-of-view.
2.30 – 3.30 – Sunday Roast
Sharon and Ali from Slaithwaite Community Centre explore the theme of ‘community’ in Slaithwaite. How do we define ‘community’, and what different communities are in the area?
3.30 – 4pm – Notes from the Band Room
Back after a break from his regular brass band programme, Clive Waind introduces us to some brass music, and speaks to a member of a local band about the culture of brass bands.
4pm – 4.45 – Holmfirth Writers Group – Community
After a very succesful debut collection last month, Holmfirth Writers Group return with a programme of poems, short stories and radio dramas, all based around the theme of ‘Community’.
4.45 – 5.15 – Valley Classical
Starting off a series of classical music programmes, we hear from Ben Ellin, the director of the popular Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra, and find out what’s coming up in the classical music calendar.
5.15 – Live from the Print Room
To end the afternoon we’ll have a programme of musicians from the Enoch’s Hammer Folk Club in Slaithwaite.

We’d like to congratulate five of our hard-working volunteers for passing their Bronze Arts Awards!
Our volunteers put in so much for Two Valleys Radio, we thought… why not give them something back? So alongside their work on the radio, some of them have been creating portfolios which demonstrate their learning, and show how they’ve shared their new skills with others. Their portfolios were assessed, and all five passed with flying colours.
So congratulations Meg, Rachel, Rosie, Hayley and Ruby!
We’ve now started a new group off so hopefully it wont be long until you’re hearing even more success stories from our volunteers.
